ECO-FRIENDLY EASTER CANDLES

Here’s a fun activity for everyone this Easter weekend! You can make eco-friendly candles in just 10 easy steps. These sweet egg shell candles make festive décor for any table setting. You’ll be able to find these materials at home and at your local craft store. Before you start, you can light one of our signature scented candles to help inspire your project!

What you need:

  • 3 eggs
  • .5 lbs of natural wax
  • 3 cotton core wicks
  • 3 tealight holders
  • 1 bowl
  • 1 stainless steel melting pot
  • 1 toothpick
  • 3 glue dots or glue gun

Getting your vessels ready:

  1. Take one egg and tap the narrow end of the egg gently on a surface. Once the shell has cracked, slowly peel it away removing only the top quarter of the shell. You’ll want to do this on top of a bowl to collect egg white and yolk as they begin to drip out. Pour all egg contents into the bowl and set the hollow shell aside gently. Repeat these steps for all three eggs.
  2. Put bowl of egg whites and yolk aside and save it for your next meal! Gently take hollow egg shells and clean out the interiors under warm water. Ensure the insides are dry and place them into your tea light holders.
  3. Eggs have air cells! Gently take a toothpick, and place it into each shell, popping the air cell on the bottom. You may need to move the toothpick around to penetrate the cell. Repeat for all shells.
  4. Measure and cut the cotton core wicks so that they are as tall as the top of the vessels when placed inside.
  5. Stick the glue dots under each wick tab and secure the wick at the bottom of each shell. If you don't have dots, you can use your glue gun. Be sure to center them. Once done, set your vessels aside.

Wax Preparation:

  1. Place the candle melting pot on the stove and set heat on high.
  2. Measure for .5 lbs of natural wax and place them into the pot. Wait for wax to melt, stirring continuously in the process. Be sure to follow the instructions on the product label regarding the wax’s melting point.

Finishing off your Eco-Friendly Easter Candles:

  1. Once wax has melted, lower the heat and pour the wax into each egg shell, filling 2/3 of each vessel.
  2. Set your creations aside and wait for wax to harden (typically takes 24 hours).
  3. Once your candles are set, take them to decorate your favourite table space. Light and enjoy!
