NATIONAL RELAXATION DAY

When we are doing our best to be present each day and enjoy our daily routines, life can surprise us with changes, adaptations, and challenges. On some days, we can move along with the tides but we can also take a break to recuperate before we set sail again. When we are unable to fight or keep on, our body is telling us to rest, unwind, and light a candle! Here are some ways to care for our overall health on August 15 National Relaxation Day to bounce back renewed:

  1. Actually rest. Our culture in North America is to work and keep busy beyond the 9 to 5 so we can afford everyday luxuries and care for our loved ones. Only when we take time to get a good night’s sleep (7-8 hours), or rest frequently to improve our physical and mental health can we perform at our best.
  1. Do what you love. Whether it’s reading, listening to music, or fixing up the home, doing more of what you enjoy can help boost serotonin levels, lower blood pressure, and keep your nervous system calm. The results are improved mood and memory to continue with routines.
  1. “Treat yo’self”. Make it a spa, shopping or beach day - whichever it is that makes you feel spoiled and nurtured. Focusing on ourselves leads to learning and understanding more about personal limits and stress levels. The goal is to develop tools to manage our everyday stressors that have both positive and negative impact in our lives. Soak in what makes you feel good to keep calm and clearheaded.
