CITRUS SCENTED CANDLES

Spring is here, and nothing is more refreshing than the smell of citrus flowing through our space. These beautiful eco-friendly candles make fun décor for any table setting, while releasing a light clean and invigorating scent from their natural vessels when lit. They are easier to prepare compared to oyster shell and Easter egg candles and will require less materials. You’ll be able to find everything below at your local grocer and craft store. Naturally, lighting our best-loved FRESHLY SQUEEZED aromatherapy candle can help add an extra touch of citrus and inspiration to this project

What you need:

  • 2-4 lemons/oranges/limes (depending on the fruit you want to use; one fruit cut in half makes two candles and the extras can be used as garnish)
  • .5 lbs of natural wax (this makes approximately 4 citrus candles)
  • 4 cotton core wicks with metal bases
  • 1 paring knife
  • 1 container
  • 1 stainless steel melting pot
  • 1 stirring utensil for wax

Getting your vessels ready:

  1. Wash your fruits thoroughly and wipe them dry for cutting. Cut each fruit in half and remove their contents into a container. One fruit can produce two candles; if making four candles, you can use the extra fruits for garnish. Seal your container with citrus content and pop it in the refrigerator to use for tea, dressings, or other recipes.
  2. Ensure most of the contents in each fruit half has been removed (some leftover pulp on the sides will not be an issue; in fact, they can help produce more citrus scents in your candle.
  3. Measure and cut the cotton core wicks so that they are as tall as the top of the vessels when placed inside.
  4. Secure the wick at the bottom of each vessel. Citrus walls are soft and can be permeated to help stabilize the wicks. Be sure to center them. Once done, set your vessels aside.

Wax Preparation:

  1. Place the candle melting pot on the stove and set heat on high.
  2. Measure for .5 lbs of natural wax and place them into the pot. Wait for wax to melt, stirring continuously in the process. Be sure to follow the instructions on the product label regarding the wax’s melting point and fragrance flash point.
  3. You can add your favourite citrus-scented essential oil to give your candles more of a bright-smelling kick. Stir well if added.

Finishing off your Citrus Candles:

  1. Once wax has melted and blended, lower the heat and pour the wax into each fruit half, filling 2/3 of each vessel.
  2. Set your creations aside and wait for wax to harden (typically takes 24 hours).
  3. Once your candles are set, take them to decorate your favourite table space. Light and enjoy!
